Formula 1 Must Put a Time Limit on Post-Race Investigations and Penalties

Imagine turning off the television after watching your favourite football club celebrate a victory only to see in the newspaper the next morning that they actually lost. Ridiculous, right? Well, that scenario is becoming an all-too-common occurrence in Formula One. At Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo crossed the line fifth and was disappointed to miss out on one of the best podium ceremonies of the year in front of a packed, enthusiastic crowd. "The outcome was a bit of a shame," the Aussie lamented in a post-race interview on Sky Sports. "I really wanted to be on the podium." As it turns out, though, Ricciardo should have been on the podium, in third place, rather than Sebastian Vettel (himself only having replaced R...

Lewis Hamilton claimed his eighth victory of the 2016 Formula One season in Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. After returning to winning ways at the recent United States GP, the Mercedes driver took a dominant pole-to-flag win—his first in Mexico—to cut Nico Rosberg's championship lead to 19 points with just two races remaining. Joining Hamilton on the podium were Rosberg, who salvaged another strong result from a challenging weekend, and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who was later demoted to fifth after incurring a post-race penalty following a late-race scuffle with Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, who inherited the position. With a look at a day to forget for the home heroes, Sergio Perez and ...

NASCAR at Martinsville 2016: Winners, Losers from the Goody’s Fast Relief 500

A year ago, Jeff Gordon won for the ninth time at Martinsville Speedway punching his ticket to Homestead. A year later, Jimmie Johnson won for the ninth time at Martinsville Speedway punching his ticket to Homestead—this time racing for a special seventh championship. Johnson can no longer ignore it. NBCSN’s Kyle Petty, whose father Richard Petty has seven titles, said: "If you want to ignore it, just don’t win six. You can’t ignore it. Jimmie Johnson is in that rarified air since he won that sixth championship. When you look at what he’s done, he deserves to be there. He goes in week in, week out, he’s that kind of driver. This is history-in-the-making of our sport." Johnson’s fate, for the time, i...

Mexican F1 Grand Prix 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights, Reaction

The 2016 Formula One world championship title fight will continue for at least another fortnight after Lewis Hamilton beat standings leader Nico Rosberg for first place in Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix. Max Verstappen initially finished third in the race, but Formula One promoted fourth-place finisher Sebastian Vettel after giving the former a penalty for an incident on the first lap: Hamilton led from the front after Rosberg collided with Red Bull's Verstappen at Turn 1 of the opening lap, and despite going across the grass in that hiccup, the Briton recovered to claim the victory. Rosberg retains a 19-point lead at the top of the standings heading into the Brazilian Grand Prix on Nov. 13, when the German could...

MotoGP Grand Prix of Malaysia 2016 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso grabbed his first MotoGP win since 2009 on Sunday, beating Valentino Rossi of Movistar Yamaha to the finish line at the 2016 Malaysia Grand Prix. Dovizioso was the fastest man in a rain-soaked race that saw both world champion Marc Marquez and Andrea Iannone crash out of the front group after impressing early. Jorge Lorenzo was the main beneficiary of those crashes, as he was able to limit the damage in the overall standings. It wasn't good enough to keep the race for second place alive, however, as Rossi's second-placed finish in Malaysia means the veteran's lead in the standings can no longer be bridged with just one race left. Here's a look at the results from Sunday's race: The current MotoGP standings: As sh...

Eight drivers remain in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' Chase going into Sunday's Goody's Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Joey Logano was another notable name on the bubble with those two, but he seized the checkered flag to advance to the most diverse round of the Chase. This round features another three races, halves the Chase itself and features two ovals and a speedway.
