Kyle Busch Setting a New Standard of Dominance with Mastery of 3 NASCAR Series

Is there still such a condition as Kyle Busch victory fatigue? At some point, it gets palatable, right? The stages—anger, revulsion, grudging acceptance, embrace—should have run their course by now. At the Sprint Cup level, which, honestly, is the only one that matters much, the younger of the championship-winning Busch brothers has only won two races. The last two. Through the still-small sample of seven, his average finish is 5.9. Last year he won the title, and the norm was 10.8, so he can't keep this pace up. Can he?   Dale Earnhardt Jr., who finished second but by a lot (3.904 seconds), said in a media conference, "We had a fast car, probably good enough to win. We finished up where we should have. We need a win. We'd...

Are Ferrari Actually Closing the Gap to Mercedes? What Do the Numbers Tell Us?

All the talk coming into the 2016 Formula One season was how Ferrari were finally catching up to Mercedes after two years of Silver Arrows domination. "We know more or less where we are compared to Ferrari—which is why I say for sure it is close," said Mercedes' Nico Rosberg after the final pre-season test, per ESPN F1's Nate Saunders. "But we are not sure if we are ahead or behind." After qualifying at the first race, in Australia, Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen said of Mercedes, "Obviously they are very fast but I don’t think we should be too worried," per F1i.com's Phillip van Osten. Of course, Rosberg won the first two races for Mercedes with his team-mate, Lewis Hamilton, finishing second in Australia and third in Bahrain. Those ...

NASCAR at Texas 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

Kyle Busch earned his second win of the 2016 Sprint Cup season Saturday night in the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. It was his fourth checkered flag in a span of eight days after he won Friday's Xfinity Series race in addition to victories last week in the STP 500 and the Camping World Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway. NBC Sports' Nate Ryan helped any fans who might have missed the action on the track over the past week catch up: Busch lay low for most of Saturday's race. He didn't take the lead until the 301st lap. Once he climbed into the top spot, though, he was there to stay. Fox Sports: NASCAR provided a replay of the final lap: The No. 18 car led the final 34 laps of the race and crossed the finish line i...

NASCAR at Texas 2016: Live Results and Analysis from Duck Commander 500

Kyle Busch completed his second weekend sweep in a row at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night with a first-place finish at the Duck Commander 500.  The driver of the No. 18 car sped past Martin Truex Jr. on the final restart with 32 laps to go and did not relinquish the top spot after that point of the race. Joe Gibbs Racing and its affiliated cars led all but 16 laps in the first night race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season.  Carl Edwards and Truex Jr. were the dominant drivers for the majority of the race, but a bad pit stop did in the No. 19 car and a poor pit strategy left the No. 78 team second guessing their thought process. The two racers combined to lead 265 of the 334 laps.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. used a pass with nine ...

As Haas’ Strong Start Continues, Why Has F1 Fallen out of Love with Sauber?

Since Romain Grosjean crossed the line to finish sixth in last month's Australian Grand Prix, allowing Haas to score points in their very first race, the flow of positivity emanating from Formula One's latest new team has barely halted. "Guys, listen to me, this is a win for us! This is a win!" Grosjean yelped over team radio on the cool-down lap at Albert Park as one of his mechanics—fresh from leaning over the pit wall in celebration—unzipped his fireproof overalls to reveal a t-shirt that read: "Have no fear, Haas F1 Team are here!" Indeed, even the fears expressed by Williams' Pat Symonds, who told Motorsport.com Jonathan Noble how Haas' instant success—aided by their intimate technical partnership ...

NASCAR Xfinity Series at Texas 2016 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

After Kyle Busch nearly led from flag-to-flag, the former Sprint Cup champion won the O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway.  Erik Jones, Brad Keselowski, Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. rounded out the top five, and Busch won his 80th career NASCAR Xfinity series race. Busch and Jones started and ended the race at one-two. NASCAR captured this moment at Victory Lane after the Las Vegas native crossed the finish line: It didn't take long before the yellow flag would make an appearance at Texas Motor Speedway. On the second turn on the first lap, Ryan Preece spun out and couldn't regain control on the track, per NASCAR Xfinity: But as soon as the green flag went up after that caution, Busch clawed tow...

NASCAR at Texas 2016 Qualifying Results: Race Order, Final Times and Reaction

Everything is bigger in Texas, and that applies to Texas Motor Speedway, the 1.5-mile track that will host Saturday's Duck Commander 500. But before the green flag could drop, the event's field was set in Friday's qualifying rounds for the Sprint Cup race. Here are the results and race order after Friday's qualifying session: Carl Edwards won his 17th career pole, his second at Texas and his first since November 2013 with a lap time of 27.748 seconds. Xfinity Racing pointed out that this was Edwards' first pole win of the 2016 season: Texas Motor Speedway caught a picture of him in Victory Lane: On a qualifying day that saw the times increase as the session continued, Edwards was the only driver in the third round to hit 194 mph and cloc...

NASCAR at Texas 2016 Qualifying Results: Live Leaderboard Updates

Carl Edwards will be on the pole for Saturday's Duck Commander 500 after taking the top spot in Friday's qualifying at Texas Motor Speedway. It was the 17th career pole for Edwards, who won the last two of three qualifying rounds and had a top time of 27.748 seconds on the 1.5-mile track. Joey Logano and Martin Truex tied for second at 27.935 seconds, but Logano will get second position because of a points tiebreaker. The Duck Commander 500 will be shown Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on Fox. NASCAR at Texas 2016: Start Time, Ticket Info, Lineup, TV Schedule and More

NASCAR returns to Texas one week after Kyle Busch's first career win at Martinsville Speedway for the Duck Commander 500 at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday.   Busch had never before secured a win at last week's track over all three levels of the sport, so it's a sign of two things. For one, the dominant players continue to get their wheels under them about a quarter of a way into the season. Two, the unpredictable can and still will happen. That said, the 1.5-mile juggernauts will come out to play again in Texas, making for what should be a competitive event, albeit one filled with the usual suspects at the top unless someone comes out of nowhere to surprise. Here's a look at everything to know about one of the best dates on the ...

Formula 1 Solves Qualifying Dilemma, but Governance Problems Remain

Common sense finally—finally—prevailed in the Formula One qualifying saga this week. Unfortunately, it took a near-unprecedented showing of team unity to force the FIA's and Formula One Management's hands, so don't hold your breath waiting for that common sense to spill over into other decisions regarding the future of the sport. On Thursday, after receiving a unanimous letter from the teams, the FIA and FOM issued a joint statement acquiescing to their demands and announcing a return to the qualifying format used in 2015.  In case you missed it, here is a quick recap of the circuitous route to this seemingly obvious (at least to everyone outside the inner circle of the sport's leadership) decision. In February, the FIA ann...
