Formula 1’s Latest Rumours and Talk: Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and More

After suffering poor getaways in Australia and Bahrain, Lewis Hamilton's troubled start to the 2016 Formula One season is likely continue at the forthcoming Chinese Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver recovered from a first-corner collision with Valtteri Bottas to finish third last time out, but damage to his gearbox in the Sakhir, Bahrain, race has forced the three-time world champion to accept a five-place grid penalty in Shanghai. Another race in damage-limitation mode is to be expected, but Hamilton has insisted he is not yet ruling out a third successive Chinese GP victory. While Hamilton will start no higher than sixth, Fernando Alonso will be grateful just to make the grid on Sunday. Following his crash at the season-opening Australian G...

Chinese Grand Prix 2016 Preview: Start Time, TV Info, Weather, Schedule, Odds

Formula One makes its first visit of the year to east Asia this weekend for the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix. It will be the 13th running of the event, first held in 2004, and the last long-distance "flyaway" grand prix until June. Nico Rosberg won his first-ever grand prix here at the Shanghai International Circuit in 2012, and he heads into the race with a 17-point lead over team-mate Lewis Hamilton in the drivers' championship. The German has won the last five races, but Hamilton is the form man so far as racing in China is concerned. The reigning world champion is the most successful driver in Chinese Grand Prix history, with four wins and five pole positions. Normally he'd look like the best bet to take victory in 2016 too, but a five-place...

Lewis Hamilton Handed Chinese Grand Prix 2016 Grid Penalty for Gearbox Change

Lewis Hamilton’s chances of success at Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix have been hit with a significant setback, after it was confirmed he will face a five-place grid penalty. As reported by Andrew Benson of BBC Sport, the sanction comes after Mercedes decided to change Hamilton's gearbox ahead of the race. It's noted the equipment was damaged during the driver's last outing in Bahrain, and a five-place penalty is the standard punishment. Per Benson, Mercedes have stated they’ve made the decision because this venue represents “the best place to make the change and take the penalty." The Shanghai International Circuit is known for giving drivers a lot of overtaking chances, including the longest straight the drivers will ...

5 Great Moments from Chinese Grand Prix History

The Shanghai International Circuit has hosted the Chinese Grand Prix every year since 2004, and it has seen plenty of firsts, lasts and special moments in that time. Michael Schumacher's victory in the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix was his last in Formula One; three years later, Sebastian Vettel's defeat of Jenson Button's Brawn marked the beginning of the Red Bull era. Mercedes also kicked off their path back to dominance with a Shanghai win, and few fans will ever forget the 2007 race, in which a strategic blunder by McLaren and a mistake by Lewis Hamilton allowed Kimi Raikkonen to remain in the title hunt as the teams headed for the season finale in Brazil. Here, we look back on and remember five key moments in Shanghai over the last 13 years,...

Chinese Grand Prix 2016: 5 Bold Predictions for Shanghai Race

The third round of the new Formula One season will take place at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit, where Lewis Hamilton will continue his search for a first win of 2016. Now a three-time world champion, having dominated the 2015 campaign, the British driver will tell you he has very little left to prove.  At a time his great rival and Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg is in the midst of a career-best run of five successive wins, however—and establishing a handy lead at the top of the drivers' standings—a first victory of 2016 is now a matter of urgency. Yet Hamilton is the most successful driver in Chinese GP history, and while he might be without a win since last October, he will still ...

Chinese Grand Prix 2016: 5 Key Talking Points Ahead of Shanghai Race

McLaren will take three race-ready drivers to Formula One's 2016 Chinese Grand Prix amid continuing uncertainty over Fernando Alonso's fitness to drive. Stoffel Vandoorne was drafted in as a last-minute replacement to partner Jenson Button at the Bahrain Grand Prix on April 3. The Belgian will travel to Shanghai with the team, ready to step in again, but Alonso will be hoping to put the youngster's F1 career on hold until 2017 when he undergoes medical tests on Thursday. Elsewhere in the world of F1, politics and finances have reigned supreme in recent weeks. The 11 teams got together in a rare show of unity to force Bernie Ecclestone and Jean Todt to back down in the row over qualifying, but format changes could still be made in time for 2...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: Haas’ Romain Grosjean, Kevin Magnussen, More

Having won Formula One's new Driver of the Day award in the first two races of 2016, Romain Grosjean could be forgiven for feeling a little smug. Many feared the Frenchman had thrown his career away at the end of last year, when he decided to leave his spiritual home of Lotus—on the verge of being purchased by Renault—for the brand-new Haas team. But after two top-six finishes in Australia and Bahrain, Grosjean has revealed he is taking much satisfaction from proving his doubters wrong. While Haas sit fifth in the constructors' championship, Renault are among the three teams yet to score a point this season, but Kevin Magnussen is convinced the Enstone-based outfit will have the last laugh. The Dane has endured an unfortunate st...
