The Fastest Drivers in NASCAR

Fast. Such a simple adjective. NASCAR makes it complicated, though. Is it fast for 500 miles, or laps or kilometers? Or is it fast for one lap? Is it fast all alone or fast in traffic? Is the driver fast because he (or she) has the most talent? Or is it because he drives the fastest car? Race fans argue about these shades of differences. Broadened properly—and "fast" is easily broadened and narrowed—it's the central bone of contention that drives the sport. The goal of racing is getting to the end—which is the same place as the start—faster than everybody else. The driver who leads almost every lap? He's fast. The one who bides his time, works with his team, tinkers with the setup and steals the race at the end? He's...

Brazilian Grand Prix 2016 Preview: Start Time, TV Info, Weather, Schedule, Odds

Nico Rosberg has won the last two Brazilian Grands Prix and, with Formula One descending on Sao Paulo again this weekend, he can wrap up his first world championship with a victory. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, has never won in Brazil, although he did clinch his first title at the Interlagos circuit in dramatic fashion back in 2008.  The battle between the Mercedes team-mates has swung back and forth all year, and Hamilton has dominated recently, winning convincingly in the United States and Mexico. But even wins in Brazil and the final race, in Abu Dhabi, will not be enough if Rosberg can manage at least a second- and third-place finish in the last two races. In that scenario, Hamilton would actually finish the season with more victorie...

Brazilian Grand Prix 2016: 5 Bold Predictions for Interlagos Race

The penultimate round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos, where Nico Rosberg can secure his first world championship. After finishing second to Mercedes team-mate and title rival Lewis Hamilton in the recent Mexican GP, a 10th victory of the year in Brazil will be enough for Rosberg to clinch the crown and follow in the footsteps of his father, 1982 world champion Keke. At a circuit where he won convincingly in 2014 and '15, the German couldn't wish for a better place to stage his day of destiny, but can Rosberg be trusted to finish the job in style? Here are five predictions for the Brazilian GP, featuring Hamilton, Red Bull's Max Verstappen, local hero Felipe Massa and Renau...

Carl Edwards’ Texas Timing Is Exquisite as He Marches on in Chase

Timing. Carl Edwards' victory Sunday in the Texas AAA 500 was based on timing. His slot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup finals is assured. Edwards led 36 laps. The last 36 laps. Timing. He took the lead on pit road because his crew was at its best when the race was on the line. His last two restarts, with both the rest of field and pop-up showers in pursuit, were faultless. He took advantage of his best chance to go to Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 20 with a shot at the championship that has narrowly eluded him three times. Yes. Timing. Most everything went wrong at Texas Motor Speedway. Rain forced a race scheduled to be run on a Sunday afternoon to drag into a rainy night. It ended prematurely, 41 laps shy of the intended distance. What ...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: Manor’s Pascal Wehrlein, Force India and More

Pascal Wehrlein may be only the second driver in Manor's history to score a world championship point, yet his reputation seems to have fallen as the 2016 Formula One season has progressed. The German was regarded as a future world champion when he finished 10th in July's Austrian Grand Prix with an almost logic-defying performance at the Red Bull Ring, where he followed in the footsteps of the late Jules Bianchi. But now there are doubts over his true potential and doubts over his attitude, especially after that team-radio conversation at the recent United States GP. And with the Mercedes-backed youngster seemingly set to miss out on seats at two different Mercedes-powered teams, Wehrlein has admitted he would be happy to continue his appre...

NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase Grid 2016: Standings, Schedule After AAA Texas 500

Carl Edwards ensured he will have an opportunity to win the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship with a victory on Sunday at a rain-shortened AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The race was delayed because of the weather and ultimately called after 293 of 334 laps. According to Joe Menzer of Fox Sports, Edwards entered Victory Lane more than nine hours after the race was supposed to start. His reward for the perseverance is one of the four spots in the winner-take-all Sprint Cup Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The AAA Texas 500 was the second of three races in the Round of 8, and a victory at any of the three means automatic advancement into the next round.  Edwards was ready to move his...

NASCAR at Texas 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

Carl Edwards booked his place in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup's Championship 4 by winning a rain-soaked AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Sunday. Officials called the race after 293 laps on account of rain showers. As Xfinity Racing tweeted, nobody was happier to see the heavens open than Edwards: USA Today's Jeff Gluck thought Edwards responded brilliantly with his back against the wall in terms of his Chase position: Winning a race because of inclement weather is anticlimactic, but it won't dampen the excitement for Edwards and his crew. NASCAR shared a clip when the race officially ended and Edwards was declared the winner: The No. 19 car edged out Joey Logano to earn the checkered flag. Below are the top ...

Lewis Hamilton Interview: Distractions, Social Media and His Approach to Racing

Lewis Hamilton is an easy target. He is young, rich, successful, attractive and, it must be said, he seems to enjoy showing it all off. He is also the only current Formula One driver with any pop culture currency, which must be unsettling to those who would rather think of them as joyless automatons, singularly dedicated to the craft of driving and shaving another hundredth-of-a-second off off their Sector 2 time. Because Hamilton has other interests in his life and because those interests include partying with fellow celebrities and jetting around the world on his private plane, he receives an undue amount of criticism from some segments of the media and of F1's fanbase. Bleacher Report spoke with Hamilton about handling that criticism, am...

He was followed by Daniel Suarez and Elliott Sadler, who entered the race tied for the Round of 8 points lead, in fifth and sixth, respectively. Here's a look at the top finishers from the season's 31st race: And let's check out the updated standings in the Chase: The crowded pack atop the standings is making for a dramatic finish to the season.
