NASCAR at Richmond 2016: Winners and Losers from the Toyota Owners 400

Pop quiz, hot shot*: What happens when one driver in a de facto match race drives not to lose while the other driver pilots to win? You get what happened in the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Kyle Busch raced not to lose, while his teammate, Carl Edwards, raced with purpose—bumped Busch—and became the first driver at RIR to make a pass on the final lap to win the race in one of the more unexpected finishes you’ll ever see**. Edwards, who won at Bristol last week, made it back-to-backflip at RIR. “Both those drivers drove a brilliant race,” said Jeff Gordon, Fox’s NASCAR analyst. “That last run was amazing. I didn’t think anybody was going to touch Kyle Busch. He was just ...

NASCAR at Richmond 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

A week ago, Kyle Busch told reporters he was "sick and tired" after a Bristol wipeout cost him a chance at a third straight victory. Seven days later, Busch has only teammate Carl Edwards to blame for keeping him out of Victory Lane. Edwards bumped his teammate out of the way in Corner 4 of the final lap Sunday, pushing himself to his second win of 2016 at the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Edwards is the third two-time winner of the season, joining Busch and Jimmie Johnson. He also ascends to the point lead, as he not only has a lead in ties but has also been NASCAR's most consistent performer. While Edwards had an impressive move to win the race, Alex Ptachick of USA Today wasn't impressed with his patented...

Clint Bowyer Blasts Team for Issues with Race Car During Practice Session

Clint Bowyer wasn't afraid to chastise his team, HScott Motorsports, for what he felt were poor preparations heading into qualifying for Sunday's Toyota Owners 400 at the Richmond International Raceway.   After finishing 40th and 37th in two practice sessions, Bowyer qualified for 39th in the 40-car race. He topped out at 117.842 mph during the first practice and then 116.324 mph Saturday. "I've never been with such a [expletive] unprepared [expletive] team in my life," he said over his team radio, per Motorsport.com's Lee Spencer. "It's a [expletive] joke. No power steering. [Expletive] put this in the truck and go home." It's not the first time Bowyer has voiced his concern with his team. Earlier in the month, he spoke to Spencer abo...

Are Williams in Danger of Dropping Back into the Formula 1 Midfield?

Claire Williams, deputy team principal of the Williams Formula One team, told the official F1 website in November 2014, "From where we are now, 2015 should almost be a dress rehearsal for a championship challenge in 2016." After three races in 2016, it is safe to say that a title run is not going to happen for Williams this year. Mercedes (who supply Williams with their engines) remain dominant, while Ferrari and Red Bull—with their massive budgets—are in the best position to challenge the Silver Arrows' hegemony. Williams, who finished a brilliant third in the constructors' championship in both 2014 and 2015, are sitting fourth, closer to Toro Rosso and newcomers Haas than to Ferrari and Red Bull. Now, after their maj...

NASCAR at Richmond 2016: Live Results and Analysis from the Toyota Owners 400

Carl Edwards used a bump and run on the final lap to get past teammate Kyle Busch and capture the checkered flag for a second race in a row at Sunday's Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. The last-lap pass was the first for a win in track history. Edwards led a race-high 151 laps on the three-quarter mile track but seemed like he'd come up just short before he caught a late surge on the last lap, bumped Busch and raced by him on the inside line to the finish.  Busch, who led 78 laps, was forced to settle for a second-place finish. Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.  Tony Stewart, making his first start of the season after missing eight races with a broken back, finished in 19th...
