Russian Grand Prix 2016: Winners and Losers from Sochi Race

Nico Rosberg claimed his fourth consecutive victory of the 2016 Formula One season in Sunday's Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom. With Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton again hindered by an engine problem in qualifying and Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel suffering a five-place grid penalty due to a gearbox change, Rosberg started from pole position for the second race in succession and led comfortably from the front. In his latest damage-limitation exercise, Hamilton recovered well to finish second, but the same cannot be said of Vettel, who collided with Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat on two separate occasions on the first lap before registering his second retirement in four races. On a day McLaren-Honda's Fernando Alonso and Renault's Kevin Ma...

Daniil Kvyat’s Reaction to Sebastian Vettel Incidents Shows Admirable Character

Daniil Kvyat got an earful from Sebastian Vettel at the end of last month's Chinese Grand Prix. The young Russian dove up the inside of Vettel's Ferrari at the first corner, spooking the four-time champion and causing him to swerve into his team-mate's car. Kvyat stood his ground both on the race track, helping him claim Red Bull's first podium in seven months, and in the podium ceremony green room, when Vettel accused him of coming at him "like a torpedo," according to Reuters. Kvyat was right and showed his mental strength in refusing to be cowed by Vettel. Planet F1's Michelle Foster went as far as to suggest it could be a career-defining moment for the then-21-year-old Russian. (He celebrated his 22nd birthday nine days later.) On Sunda...

NASCAR at Talladega 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

NASCAR's annual trip to Talladega Superspeedway for the 2016 GEICO 500 turned out to be fruitful for Brad Keselowski, as he took home the checkered flag on Sunday.    Leading a race-high 46 laps, Keselowski had to make a late move back into the top spot to earn his second win of the season. It was an ugly race for everyone, marred by multiple crashes that took away virtually any momentum or pace on the track.  NASCAR tweeted out confirmation that Keselowski crossed the finish line before a crash nearly caused another caution: Here are the results from Sunday's race at Talladega and the updated points standings: Full race results and point standings can be found at NASCAR.com. This was one of the mos...

NASCAR at Talladega 2016: Live Results and Analysis from the Geico 500

Brad Keselowski captured the checkered flag in a wild and wreck-filled Geico 500 on Sunday afternoon at Talladega Superspeedway for his second trip to Victory Lane this season. Keselowski led 46-of-188 laps and was one of the few cars to survive largely unscathed on a day that featured several huge, scary wrecks on a track known for producing "The Big One." The whole race took on the feel of a demolition derby. Kurt Busch set off the biggest one when he got into Jimmie Johnson coming up the track on lap 160 and set in motion a chain of events that officially collected 21 cars per NASCAR's official count.  But, even with 21 cars involved, it wasn't even the scariest wreck of the afternoon. Chris Busecher's car got airborne on Lap 95 and...

NASCAR Xfinity Series at Talladega 2016 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Elliott Sadler won't have many happier birthdays than this one when he was awarded the win at the Spark Energy 300 from Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday. And he might not win another one in more dramatic fashion.     In second place heading into the final turn of NASCAR's overtime lap after a caution with three to go, Sadler was behind Joey Logano, who looked to have the race wrapped up. Sadler bumped Logano, who was sent sprawling into the wall, while Sadler skidded inside beneath the yellow line but still on the track as the caution light went on. Because he was still on the track at the time of the caution lap, Sadler was awarded the win instead of rookie Brennan Poole, who passed Sadler and crossed the finish line after the...

Nico Rosberg Benefits from More Good Luck in 2016 Russian Grand Prix Qualifying

In the end, it didn't matter in the slightest. With a cloud of white smoke and that familiar sound of a squealing, overloaded front tyre, Nico Rosberg was off the track, running wide under braking for the tricky right-hander we know and love as Turn 13 of the Russian Grand Prix circuit. At any other time in any other year, such an error in the final three minutes of a Formula One qualifying session would have almost certainly cost him dearly, inviting his closest competitors to shove him down the order. But in the opening weeks of 2016? A season in which his rivals have all fallen before him and almost everything has worked in his favour? It meant nothing. Nothing. Rather than charging to the main straight to begin another flying lap ...

Russian Grand Prix 2016 Qualifying: Saturday’s F1 Results, Times and Final Grid

Mercedes' Nico Rosberg will begin the Russian Grand Prix in pole position on Sunday, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton once again running into trouble in qualifying. Hamilton was unable to make it out for the final qualifying stint, meaning he'll begin in 10th. Trailing Rosberg was Ferrari man Sebastian Vettel, although he will be hit with a five-place grid penalty, meaning third-quickest Valtteri Bottas will start on the front row in his Williams, with Kimi Raikkonen in third. Earlier in the day, Hamilton, who was also summoned to see the stewards after qualifying, set the pace in the final practice session. Here's a reminder of how things panned out on another dramatic Saturday, including all the times from the day and the positions...
