Star-Studded Chase Finalists a Mix of NASCAR’s Past, Present and Future

In the summer, a journeyman catcher for the Boston Red Sox collected 20 hits in his first 40 at-bats. Sandy Leon wound up hitting .310. The law of averages caught up. That's what happened to Kevin Harvick in Sunday's Can-Am 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. He had won five of the previous six NASCAR Sprint Cup races at the mile track. Harvick couldn't bat .833 forever. Harvick finished fourth but never led a lap. Joey Logano won. Harvick, who had never failed to qualify for a round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, didn't make the finals this time. Kyle Busch, who finished second at Phoenix, did. So did Carl Edwards and Jimmie Johnson, who had won the first two races in the round of eight. "We had a chance and could take a swing for it,...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours and Talk: Max Verstappen, Felipe Massa and More

Even before he made his Formula One debut in 2015, Max Verstappen was frequently compared to three-time world champion Ayrton Senna, widely regarded as the greatest driver who ever lived. The boy wonder has lived up to that billing over the last two seasons, pulling off a range of spectacular overtaking manoeuvres, taking on his more experienced rivals both on and off track and delivering almost logic-defying performances in wet conditions. And his recovery from 16th to third within a matter of laps in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix has drawn comparisons with some of Senna's career-defining performances, including Monaco 1984 and Donington Park 1993. Verstappen's bravery gave the local crowd plenty to cheer on an afternoon when they waved go...

Max Verstappen Channels Ayrton Senna with Magical, Wet Brazilian GP Performance

Nico Rosberg might win the 2016 Formula One drivers' championship, but even if he does dethrone Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton, the German will only be keeping the seat warm for the heir apparent: Max Verstappen. In Sunday's rainy Brazilian Grand Prix, the 19-year-old Dutchman (Dutchchild?) demonstrated again and again why he had drawn comparisons to Ayrton Senna, one of the greatest drivers ever, before he had driven his first lap in an F1 car. With near-zero visibility at Sao Paulo's Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace, Verstappen produced a drive for the ages, looking at one point like he might have a chance to win before settling for third after Red Bull's tyre gamble went bust. During the endless laps spent behind the saf...

Brazilian Grand Prix 2016: Winners and Losers from Interlagos Race

Lewis Hamilton claimed his ninth victory of the 2016 Formula One season in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos. After setting pole position on Saturday, the British driver was dominant at the front of a chaotic race, with his third consecutive win cutting Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg's championship lead to 12 points ahead of the final-race title decider. Joining Hamilton on the podium were Rosberg, who performed another damage-limitation exercise, and Max Verstappen, whose rapid recovery from 16th to third earned him the Driver of the Day award. With a look at a possible strategy error by Red Bull, incident-packed races for Ferrari and Haas and some impressive performances by two of the most underrated drivers in F1, here are the...

NASCAR at Phoenix 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

Joey Logano won the Can-Am 500 in a wild overtime finish Sunday, earning a place in the Championship 4 at next week's Ford Ecoboost 400. Kyle Busch also grabbed a spot in the top four thanks to his second-place finish, joining Jimmie Johnson and Carl Edwards as the only remaining competitors for the 2016 Chase for the Sprint Cup. Matt Kenseth was on the brink of winning the race and securing a spot in the next round before a yellow flag came out with two laps remaining. He then suffered a disappointing crash on the restart, as NASCAR showed: Logano was the beneficiary, as he took the next restart and pulled away for the win, followed by Busch and Kyle Larson. Kevin Harvick also had a chance to become a spoiler down the stretch but couldn't...

Brazilian F1 Grand Prix 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights, Reaction

Lewis Hamilton won a rain-soaked 2016 Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix after leading from start to finish on the Interlagos track at Sao Paulo on Sunday. The 31-year-old finished ahead of Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, meaning he's pushed the fight for the world championship to the season's final race at Abu Dhabi. It was a stop-start day littered with red flags and featuring more than one crash, where the safety car did almost as much driving as the racers. But Hamilton started fast and never relinquished his lead. Meanwhile, Rosberg stayed steady in torrential conditions, although he did face a strong challenge from Red Bull Racing's Max Verstappen at one point. The Dutchman ultimately finished third after a stunning race. Here's what t...

MotoGP Grand Prix of Valencia 2016 Results: Winner, Standings and Reaction

Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo won his final race with the team at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Valencia on Sunday, as he led from start to finish in the last outing of the 2016 season.  After showcasing searing pace in qualifying, Lorenzo, who will ride for Ducati next year, was alert off the start and able to build a comfortable lead.
