British F1 Grand Prix 2016 Qualifying: Results, Times from Friday’s Practice

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton topped the charts in second practice at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, while his team-mate Nico Rosberg had to sit the session out due to reliability issues. The absence of Rosberg in the afternoon meant the home crowd favourite was comfortably the quickest man on track, ahead of the Red Bull pair of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen in second and third, respectively. Hamilton was fastest earlier in the day, too, although Rosberg did show some pace in the morning; the German finished just 0.033 seconds behind his team-mate at the end of FP1. Here is a closer look at how things panned out at Silverstone and the standings in full from both sessions.   Second Practice Recap These are the prov...

Power Ranking the Drivers After the Fourth Month of 2016 NASCAR Season

Nine races to go and a shade over two months remaining in the regular season before we go to Chicagoland for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 400* (!) to start the Chase, and the Sprint Cup Series is taking shape. But before we get to Chicagoland, we’re power ranking the heck out of these drivers. There are some serious movers on this list from the 3.0 version a month ago. And that’s how this season works. Last month Kyle Busch looked invincible, like maybe he had ingested some HazMat green ooze that turned him into a mutant ninja**. Then he suddenly wasn’t invincible. There’s an MVP for every month of the NASCAR season, so who stands tallest right now. You’ll have to read on to find out who.   *: As some&...

IndyCar Owner Carl Haas Dies at Age 86

Legendary IndyCar owner Carl Haas has died at the age of 86.  Per an official release from Haas Auto's official website, he died peacefully on June 29 at his home.  Haas ventured into competitive racing in 1952 as a driver and was successful, including winning 10 races at the Milwaukee Mile racetrack, before retiring from on-track races to start his own team in 1967. Haas' journey from the track to the owner's box was explained as part of the Haas Auto website release: While at Goodwood, Carl was introduced to Mike Hewland, Hewland Engineering. Carl recognized Mike’s engineering talent and began representing Hewland in the U.S., a relationship that still exists today. At Goodwood, Carl also met Eric Broadley, the ...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: McLaren-Honda’s Jenson Button, Mercedes, More

With a world title in the bag and victories at circuits as iconic as Spa, Suzuka and Monaco to his name, Jenson Button has achieved almost everything he ever wanted in Formula One. But the seemingly ultimate goal, a podium finish in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, England, continues to elude the 2009 champion. One of the most popular British drivers in F1 history, Button has never finished higher than fourth at his bogey track and, despite his morale-boosting points finish in the Austrian GP, the 36-year-old has acknowledged his McLaren-Honda team still aren't strong enough for him to realise his dream in 2016. Provided Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton can avoid crashing into each other for the fourth time in less than two months, Mer...

NASCAR at Kentucky 2016: Preview, Prediction from the Quaker State 400

The heat is on. With the summer solstice comes urgency as the drivers head to Kentucky for the Quaker State 400. A year ago, we were in the midst of the Kyle Busch Super Happy Fun Tour, where he won three races in a row and four out of five. He’d cool off but ultimately win the championship. Now that the Joe Gibbs Racing cars have cooled down here in 2016, where does that leave the rest of the field? Stewart-Haas Racing has emerged as the strongest team in terms of points, and Team Penske boasts one of the most consistent drivers around in Brad Keselowski. The sun won’t shine bright on this old Kentucky home (it’s a night race), so we’ll do our nocturnal best to preview this upcoming race from the Bluegrass State.Beg...

British Grand Prix 2016 Preview: Start Time, TV Info, Weather, Schedule, Odds

Formula One returns to its heartland this weekend for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. It will be the fourth race in a ridiculous five weekends that have seen the teams crisscross the globe from Canada to Azerbaijan to Austria to the English countryside, 120 kilometres north-west of London. With only a few days to digest the action from the Red Bull Ring, where Nico Rosberg was penalised for crashing into Lewis Hamilton, his Mercedes team-mate, on the final lap, we should be in for a tense and fascinating weekend. Hamilton went on to win at the Red Bull Ring, while Rosberg limped to a fourth-place finish in his damaged car. That result cut Rosberg's lead to just 11 points in the drivers' championship. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Max Versta...

British Grand Prix 2016: 5 Bold Predictions for Silverstone Race

The 10th round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone, England, where Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to take advantage of his latest flashpoint with Nico Rosberg. After the Mercedes drivers made contact on the final lap in Austria last weekend, comparisons were made to their collision at the 2014 Belgian GP, where Rosberg punctured his team-mate's tyre and caused his retirement. Hamilton lost out on that afternoon at Spa, but he channeled his disappointment to win all but one of the last seven races of that season to secure his second championship in style. And with Rosberg facing heavy criticism for his blatant manoeuvre at the Red Bull Ring, Hamilton may be set to embark upon a si...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours and Talk: Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and More

Most, if not all, people in Formula One were in agreement that Nico Rosberg was the driver at fault for his collision with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the Austrian Grand Prix. Under braking for Turn 2, the championship leader made no real attempt to turn into the corner and allowed his car to roll into the side of his rival's, pushing Hamilton wide and then attempting to stop the British driver rejoining the track. Rosberg was fortunate to escape with a 10-second time penalty that had no effect on his finishing position, but the German has insisted it was Hamilton to blame for the third collision in five races between the Mercedes drivers. For his part, Hamilton was adamant he did everything in his power to avoid a...

Austrian Grand Prix 2016: Winners and Losers from Red Bull Ring Race

Lewis Hamilton claimed his third victory of the 2016 Formula One season in Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. The British driver started from pole position at the Spielberg circuit, but he was only assured of the win after emerging from a final-lap collision with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, whose attempt to take the three-time world champion out of the race backfired spectacularly. Joining Hamilton on the podium were Max Verstappen, who became the first Red Bull-backed driver to finish in the top three at the team's home track, and Kimi Raikkonen, who secured a timely return to the rostrum on another frustrating weekend for Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel in particular. On a day McLaren-Honda's Jenson Button offered a remi...

Mercedes Should Not Implement Team Orders Despite Austrian Grand Prix Crash

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton collided on the final lap of Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix, the third incident between the Mercedes team-mates in the last five Formula One races. Immediately following the race, Mercedes executive director Toto Wolff said it might be time to consider implementing team orders to control his drivers. Such a decision, though, would be bad for the sport, bad for F1 fans and bad for the Mercedes team and its reputation. Hamilton and Rosberg have been each others' only real rivals for the drivers' championship since 2014, and Hamilton has won the last two titles. Coming into the Austrian race, though, Rosberg was leading Hamilton by 24 points, thanks to his five victories against his team-mate's two. Back in 2014, ...
