NASCAR at Homestead 2016: Live Results and Analysis from the Ford EcoBoost 400

Jimmie Johnson joined NASCAR legends Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. as the only seven-time champions in Sprint Cup Series history with his victory in Sunday afternoon's Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Johnson didn't have the fastest or best car on the day, but he battled through all sorts of adversity and took advantage when a late-race wreck blew the field wide open and prompted the restart that led him to the 2016 Sprint Cup Championship.  He struck when the opportunity presented itself, passing Kyle Larson and holding off Kyle Busch and Joey Logago to take the historic victory on a day when he had to come from the back of the field.  Larson finished second. Logano finished fourth, and Kyle Busch, t...

Formula 1 Must Address Financial Inequalities Before Expanding Race Calendar

Quick show of hands: Who wishes this Formula One season had an extra three or four races? What, you don't want to see a few more near-guaranteed Mercedes victories? But that may be exactly where we are headed. Liberty, the U.S. media company that is purchasing the sport's commercial rights, wants to expand the calendar from its current 21 races (itself a record number) to maximise its investment. "There is a general line of interest if you increase the number of races to a point," Liberty chief executive Greg Maffei said recently, per Reuters' Harro Ten Wolde. "The FIA [the International Automobile Federation, which governs the sport] makes more money, the teams make more money, we make more money." That is true; the problem is that F1...

Pascal Wehrlein’s Long-Term F1 Prospects Look Uncertain After Force India Snub

F1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: Zak Brown to McLaren, James Allison to Mercedes, More

So would you rather help shape the future of Formula One or help one of its greatest institutions climb back to the summit of the sport? That appears to be the rather nice dilemma facing leading motorsport business figure Zak Brown, who seemed set to work with F1's proposed new owners, Liberty Media, but has now received an appealing offer to replace Ron Dennis at McLaren. With Eric Boullier—his former colleague from the Lotus days—in a senior position at the team, James Allison looked likely to join McLaren-Honda at one stage. But the former Ferrari technical boss may be set to walk into an environment already geared for success. Regarded as one of the brightest minds in F1, Allison has reportedly attracted interest from Merced...

Reasons for Hope at McLaren After the Ouster of CEO Ron Dennis

McLaren's boardroom may be in turmoil, with the team announcing the ouster of Ron Dennis as chief executive, but their on-track results, while not near McLaren's historical levels, are starting to show promise. Glancing down the Formula One drivers' standings, the most surprising thing isn't Nico Rosberg leading Lewis Hamilton in the title race, nor is it Daniel Ricciardo ahead of pre-season championship hopeful Sebastian Vettel. No, the most surprising result with one race remaining in the 2016 season is McLaren's Fernando Alonso leading Williams' Felipe Massa. That's Alonso, driving a McLaren with a Honda engine that struggled to finish a race last year—13 retirements and two races where a car did not even make it to the starti...

5 of the Most Interesting Radio Messages from 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix

After months of speculation, one of the most intriguing driver moves of the 2016 Formula One season was confirmed at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Having spent a single season with Renault, Kevin Magnussen will partner Romain Grosjean at Haas in 2017 as he attempts to kickstart his stalling career. With Renault set to improve considerably under the upcoming regulation changes, walking away from Team Enstone is a huge risk. But Magnussen's desire for more long-term security—or, put another way, his desperation to feel wanted—is behind his decision to join Haas. After all, Renault have spent much of this year trying to replace him and team-mate Jolyon Palmer, with Carlos Sainz Jr., Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Ocon all li...
