The Formula One drivers championship is still officially up for grabs at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this Sunday. Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton are still vying for the title, with the former holding a commanding 12-point lead. However, Hamilton has already made it clear Rosberg won't have things all his own way on the Yas Marina Circuit. The Englishman has so far paced his team-mate and professional rival in both practice sessions, per the F1 official site. Other news from the event concerns Jenson Button's imminent retirement. The McLaren-Honda man will call it quits after the season's final race, according to BBC Sport. Here are the schedule details and viewing information for this decisive race:   Date: Sunday, Nove...

4 Things Zak Brown Must Do to Take McLaren-Honda Back to the Top of Formula 1

Formula One's loss is McLaren-Honda's gain. After announcing his resignation as chief executive officer of CSM Sport and Entertainment in September, leading motorsport business figure Zak Brown seemed almost certain to help shape the future of F1 under proposed new owners Liberty Media. Having shared his impressive vision for the sport in a four-part interview with F1 journalist Peter Windsor, many felt the American would slot seamlessly into a top commercial job at the moment Liberty managed to do the impossible and rid itself of Bernie Ecclestone, the paddock's deeply entrenched chief executive. And then something even more unimaginable happened. McLaren's ousting of legendary chairman Ron Dennis created a vacancy at one of the sport's la...

Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix 2016 Qualifying: Results, Times from Friday’s Practice

Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton made a strong early statement in the Formula One world championship battle with team-mate Nico Rosberg, finishing fastest in both practice sessions on Friday at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.  After topping the standings in FP1, Hamilton had a slender edge on the ultrasoft compound in the afternoon, too. His time of one minute, 40.861 seconds put him just ahead of Rosberg. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel showed his class with a strong lap, finishing FP2 in third, but his session ended early due to what's believed to be a gearbox problem. In the morning, Hamilton posted a time of 1:42.869 on soft tyres to come home ahead of Rosberg, who was more than three-tenths slower. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was the best of the...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours and Talk: Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and More

So, who will become the 2016 Formula One world champion at this weekend's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix? Will it be Nico Rosberg, the son of a title-winner, who has led the standings for much of the year and enters the race with a healthy 12-point lead? Or will it be Lewis Hamilton, who already has three titles in the bag and has made a habit of bouncing back from disappointments throughout his F1 career? Both men have met ahead of the final round at the Yas Marina Circuit, with the Mercedes drivers offering an insight into their respective mindsets and tactics. Jenson Button's state of mind is perfectly clear after announcing he will take a sabbatical from F1 at the end of 2016. Most people are not expecting Button to return in 2018, ...

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016 Preview: Start Time, TV Info, Weather, Schedule, Odds

So it all comes down to this. After the longest season in Formula One history, the 21st and final race will decide the world championship between Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Rosberg has the advantage, sitting 12 points ahead in the drivers' standings, but Hamilton has won the last three races, albeit with Rosberg knowing he just had to finish second in each of them to clinch the title. Now, at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Rosberg needs just a third-place finish, even if his team-mate wins, to secure his first championship. In the back of Rosberg's mind, though, will be the 2014 season finale, also held in the Gulf city. He started on pole in that race, with an outside shot at stealing the title from Hamilton...

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2016: 5 Bold Predictions for Yas Marina Race

The final round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina Circuit, where Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton will fight for the world championship. Having held a 33-point lead over his team-mate following October's Japanese GP, Rosberg's advantage has been cut to just 12 points after Hamilton's three consecutive victories in the United States, Mexico and Brazil. Hamilton—who beat Rosberg to the title in 2014 and 2015—clearly has the momentum as he enters the title-deciding race at a track where he has claimed four podium finishes, including two wins, in seven previous appearances. But Rosberg has the advantage of knowing he can finish third and still take the title even i...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: Sauber’s Marcus Ericsson, Esteban Ocon, More

With his personal sponsors reportedly linked to Sauber's new owners, many regard Marcus Ericsson as one of the most brazen pay drivers to enter Formula One in recent years. But is it time to give the Swede, set to begin his fourth F1 season in 2017, the credit he deserves? Behind the wheel of a dreadful car in the most difficult of seasons for Sauber, Ericsson has generally outperformed highly rated team-mate Felipe Nasr. And although Nasr scored the team's first points of 2016 in the recent Brazilian Grand Prix, Ericsson's performances across this season have clearly impressed the team, who have awarded him with a new contract. Ericsson says he now feels at home at Sauber, while Esteban Ocon is expecting to immediately feel at home at Forc...

Jimmie Johnson Emerges from Homestead Mayhem to Match NASCAR’s Best

Jimmie Johnson has been around, disrupting the NASCAR balance of power, in every way and every kind of Chase devised to thwart him. It took 15 seasons to get seven championships. The seventh appeared at Homestead-Miami Speedway like a thief in the night. "Just didn't think the race was unfolding for us like we needed it to be the champs," Johnson said to NBC Sports, "but we just kept our heads in the game." Johnson started the Ford EcoBoost 400 last, a result of an inspection irregularity. He led three laps. Guess which ones. He won for the first time at the 1.5-mile oval that annually settles the Chase for the Sprint Cup. None of that was overly important. The championship was his seventh. No man has ever won more. Johnson joined two othe...

NASCAR Sprint Cup Winner 2016: Jimmie Johnson Tops Final Chase Standings, Grid

Jimmie Johnson won his seventh career Sprint Cup title with a first-place finish at the Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday. The win tied him with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. for the most titles in NASCAR history. While his run of five championships in a row from 2006 to 2010 was historic, Johnson's latest victory put him among the best drivers of all time. Johnson was one of four remaining drivers in the Chase for the Sprint Cup heading into the final race, with Carl Edwards, Joey Logano and Kyle Busch also in contention. However, the No. 48 car crossed the finish line ahead of Johnson's rivals to take home the top prize. Here are the final standings for the 2016 season: Other drivers were quick to praise the...

NASCAR at Miami 2016 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction

Jimmie Johnson is the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion for the seventh time in his career after he won Sunday's Ford EcoBoost 400 from Homestead-Miami Speedway.  It all came down to this race to decide a champion, as four drivers, Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano, were still in the Chase. The best finisher was set to be crowned champion, and here is a look at the race's results: Johnson joined Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. as the only drivers in NASCAR history with seven titles, and NASCAR congratulated him on his win: Edwards looked as though he would come away as champion when he held the second-place spot out of the pits with 11 laps to go during a caution. But on a restart with 10 laps left, he...
