Formula 1’s Latest Rumours, Talk: Carlos Sainz Jr., Haas’ Driver Decision, More

Carlos Sainz Jr. signed a contract to remain with Toro Rosso shortly before this season's Austrian Grand Prix, but the questions surrounding his Formula One future are yet to stop. Talk of a potential swap deal with Renault, which would see the Red Bull B-team trade one of the most exciting talents on the grid for a cheaper engine supply in 2017, has polluted the paddock since Silverstone. And almost three months later, those rumours just won't go away. But Toro Rosso have finally moved to stop the speculation, insisting Sainz will not be allowed to leave at the end of 2016. As with Sainz, we all thought Haas' plans for 2017 were set in stone, with the American team seemingly happy to retain both Romain Grosjean and Esteban Gutierrez for a ...

There is a new leader atop the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Brad Keselowski now sits one point ahead of Martin Truex Jr. after Sunday's New England 300, also referred to as the Bad Boy Off Road 300. Keselowski finished in fourth place, with Kevin Harvick taking home the second race of the Chase. The win confirms Harvick will make it to the second round of the NASCAR playoff. "It’s definitely going to be nice," Harvick said, per Joe Menzer of Fox Sports. "One of our main goals this year was to not stress ourselves out so bad. I feel like the performance of the car and the things that we’re doing are good enough to be competitive, and we just need to not make mistakes and go from there.” As of right now, it's Kyle Larson hangi...

NASCAR at New Hampshire: Winners, Losers from the Bad Boy Off Road 300

“You see in this system how much these wins mean,” NBCSN’s Jeff Burton said at the conclusion of the Bad Boy Off Road 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He said that after Kevin Harvick, the race winner, burned up a towering cloud of vaporized rubber down the front stretch. The No. 4 driver used a titanic restart with five laps to go to grab the lead by the throat and choke it away from Matt Kenseth. Harvick's win was about as clutch as they come. He spent most of the TMNT 400 at Chicagoland a lap down with a car that could’ve competed for the win. He blew off reporters at the end of the race, but he regrouped this week and climbed his way through the field to capitalize in what was a NASCAR version of the bottom o...

Why Stoffel Vandoorne Will Succeed Where McLaren’s Previous Young Drivers Failed

McLaren have a recent history of chewing up and spitting out young Formula One drivers. With 24-year-old rookie Stoffel Vandoorne taking over Jenson Button's race seat in 2017, will the results be any different for the young Belgian than for Sergio Perez or Kevin Magnussen? Back in 2012, Perez came this close to winning a wet Malaysian Grand Prix, just his 19th F1 race. Ultimately, the then-22-year-old settled for second in Malaysia and scored two other podium finishes in Canada and Italy. In September, McLaren named him as their replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who was leaving for Mercedes. Unfortunately for Perez, his arrival coincided with a downturn in McLaren's form and (to that point) one of the worst season's in the team's histor...

Valtteri Bottas Should Leave Williams for Renault for 2017 Formula 1 Season

The five red lights went out and Valtteri Bottas leaped off the line, instantly nudging ahead of Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull and sidestepping Kimi Raikkonen's slow-starting Ferrari. As he sped past the piece of track reserved for the sister Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel, whose engine failure on the formation lap left him unable to start a race for the first time in his Formula One career, just two cars separated the man who started sixth from the lead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. It was at that point—as Lewis Hamilton, determined to make up for yet another poor getaway from pole position, hounded the rear of Nico Rosberg's car and positioned himself on the outside of his Mercedes team-mate—when Bottas faced a dilemma. With a large g...
