NASCAR at Martinsville 2016 Qualifying Results: Race Order, Times, Reaction

NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup is down to the Round of 8, which will commence with the Goody's Fast Relief 500 from Martinsville Speedway in Virginia on Sunday.   On Friday afternoon, Martin Truex Jr. took the pole in qualifying for the second straight week—one week after he was eliminated from the Chase, via NASCAR: He'll lead a field that looks like this: He edged Chase drivers Joey Logano (by 0.008 seconds) and Jimmie Johnson (0.032 seconds), who will start second and third, respectively. Even if he won't win the Chase this year, Truex did set his sights on the grandfather clock awarded each year to the winner at Martinsville, via Furniture Row Racing: Martinsville was not going to yield a lot of speed; however, the tigh...

Daniil Kvyat’s 2017 F1 Stay Shows Red Bull, Toro Rosso Really Do Have a Heart

This was not another Sebastien Buemi situation or a repeat of the Jean-Eric Vergne saga for Toro Rosso. It was never going to be a case of unscrewing one driver's crash helmet, tossing it away as if it were a faulty lightbulb, inserting another and continuing as normal. It was not even a case of identifying the least convincing of the four Red Bull boys, stuffing the unlucky one into the nearest cannon and firing him into the afterlife known as the World Endurance Championship, the DTM, IndyCar or Formula E. Why?  Because, for the first time in their decade-long existence, Toro Rosso were not dealing with an underperforming, good-for-nothing Formula One driver who could and should do better, but a vulnerable young man in desperate nee...

Mexican F1 Grand Prix 2016: Early Race Predictions, Track Breakdown, Schedule

Lewis Hamilton’s victory in the Formula One United States Grand Prix has kept alive his dream of winning a fourth world title, but he needs to finish first in this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix to close the 26-point gap between himself and team-mate Nico Rosberg.  Victory on all three tracks still might not be enough for the English driver to steal the title away from Rosberg, who won this event last year and only needs to place second in each of the remaining races to win his first-ever drivers' championship. Weather conditions are looking positive, with cloudy spells and highs of 22 degrees Celsius, according to AccuWeather. However, a 40 per cent chance of thunderstorms could throw a spanner in the works. A crash for...

Formula 1’s Latest Rumours and Talk: Ferrari, McLaren-Honda and More

Where will Ferrari stand in Formula One's competitive order in 2017? By definition, the most successful team in the sport's history should be there or thereabouts, fighting for victories and regular podium finishes at the very least.  But after a scruffy 2016 marred by changes behind the scenes, is there a risk the Prancing Horse could be caught out when the major regulation changes are introduced? Sebastian Vettel is convinced that won't happen, outlining why the development of Ferrari's 2017 car has not been affected the events of this year. McLaren-Honda are almost certain to make considerable progress next season, when the new rules should allow the the team to return to winning ways for the first time since November 2012. McLaren ...

Mexican Grand Prix 2016 Preview: Start Time, TV Info, Weather, Schedule, Odds

The return of the Mexican Grand Prix in 2015 was welcomed both by local fans and the wider Formula One world. The grandstands at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez were packed last autumn, with an attendance of 336,000 over the weekend. This year, the circuit is targeting 350,000 admissions, according to Rodrigo Sanchez, the track's director of marketing and media relations, per ESPN F1's Nate Saunders. Lewis Hamilton won last Sunday in Austin, Texas, and he needs to keep winning for the final three races of the season if he hopes to overhaul his Mercedes team-mate, Nico Rosberg, and win his fourth drivers' title. Barring car problems or a crash for Rosberg, Hamilton's task looks almost impossible—but he looked to have lost th...

NASCAR at Martinsville 2016: Preview, Prediction for the Goody’s Fast Relief 500

The Chase for the Sprint Cup rolls into "The Paperclip"—Martinsville Speedway—for the Round of 8, the only round in which the field of Chasers slashes in half by the end. Who remains? Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano, Carl Edwards, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch—that’s who. This round, as far as tracks are concerned, is the most diverse: a half-mile oval, a 1.5-mile speedway and a one-mile oval. And perhaps what makes this round so salty is the quality drivers who got bumped from the Round of 12. Martin Truex Jr. and Brad Keselowski share eight wins this season, and both exited Talladega with such sour tastes in their mouths that both expressed (during the NBCSN broadcast) how badly t...

Mexican Grand Prix 2016: 5 Bold Predictions for Mexico City Race

The 19th round of the 2016 Formula One season will take place at this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, where Lewis Hamilton has to keep the momentum going. The three-time world champion ended a five-race winless run at last weekend's United States GP in Austin, Texas, where he dominated from pole position to slice Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg's championship lead. With Rosberg still holding a 26-point advantage ahead of the final three grands prix, the German can secure his first world championship in Mexico City, with Hamilton under pressure to take the title fight to the next round in Brazil. We've referred to our crystal ball to come up with five predictions for the Mexican GP, with Ferrari, a surprise ...
