Daytona 500: Green Flag Is Waving, Daytona 500 Is Underway

The pomp and circumstance is finally over, and the Daytona 500 is now officially underway. The command to fire engines was given, and after a few pace laps, Kurt Busch and Jeff Gordon took the green flag to begin the Daytona 500. Almost immediately Jeff Gordon fell backwards as he had trouble getting up to speed. As expected, the field instantly broke down into nothing but two car tandems. Busch and his pushing partner, Regan Smith led the first lap. The third lap at Daytona was a silent lap. The announcers were silent and the crowd was silent, all holding up three fingers, in a tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt who lost his life in this race 10 years ago.
