There have only been two NASCAR races so far this year, and although it’s just the beginning, there are some drivers that are already making their case to become champions. Here are the five biggest drivers to watch for this year.
Jimmie Johnson
Johnson got beat by Carl Edwards this past Sunday, but he’s still leading with eight points. Those points are largely due to the fact that he won the season opener, and then came in second during the second race of the year. The last time that happened (and yes, he’s done it before,) he ended up not just winning that year’s title, but those of the four consecutive years. If you’re not watching Johnson, you’re missing some very good racing. If you are looking to make a bet on a driver, keep Jimmie Johnson in mind. Nascar betting at Top Bet is really active for him so I think there are a lot of people who aren’t counting him out this season!
Carl Edwards
Of course if we’re going to boast about Jimmie Johnson, we’d be remise if we didn’t also mention the one person that’s beaten him so far this year — Carl Edwards. Yes, the guy had been dealing with a drought of 70 races without a win, and he faced multiple accidents during preseason and Daytona Speedweeks. But if history tells us anything, it’s that Edwards is a driver that runs on streaks. Right now, he’s having a great one.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Dale Earnhardt hasn’t really seemed to find his groove out on the track just yet, making some sloppy mistakes that have cost him big points. But he’s placed in the top five during the two races of the season, and he’s still only eight points out behind Johnson. He’s looking to match or better yet, outdo the career-high year he had in 2004 when he won six races, and he might just do it.
What NASCAR drivers do you think are worth watching this year? And who do you think will win that coveted title?
